Lights on bikes: A safety video

Ontario requires you to have a white light on the front of your bike, and a red light or reflector on the rear to ensure that drivers, pedestrians and other bikes can see you riding when there is low or no light.

Check out our safety video, co-produced with Safer Roads Ottawa, to learn more about the importance of having lights on your bike. Ce vidéo est également disponible en français.

Maintaining your bike

Safety starts with proper equipment. It's important to keep your bike in good running order in order to be safe and comfortable on the road. You can maintain your bike yourself, or you can take it to a local bicycle store.

Dooring

Don't get doored! Really. There is a danger zone for cyclists next to parked cars.

Potholes

Ottawa's road suffer from harsh winters. Potholes are common, especially in the second half of winter and in early spring.

Report a Road Problem

Report that pothole or crack now!

You can report road or city pathway hazards on the appropriate form at Service Ottawa's Roads & Transportation Section (preferred option)
