What is Bike Ottawa?
Since 1984, Bike Ottawa has worked to make Ottawa a bike-friendly city.
Riding a bike should be a fun, healthy, safe, comfortable, and convenient mode of transportation. The infrastructure the City builds the more people will choose to ride a bike. Choosing to ride a bike creates a more vibrant and liveable city.
Bike Ottawa is committed to cultivating and fostering an environment where inclusion, equity and diversity are valued and respected. Bike Ottawa’s mission is further amplified by providing a safe space where the needs of our diverse community (gender, race, culture, age, sexual orientation, abilities, and values) are acknowledged and included in decision making processes.
When we work with the City of Ottawa, the Province, the National Capital Commission, and Ottawa residents on this unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabe Nation, we do so with the intent to develop safe bike infrastructure and policies so that all of these diverse members of our community can thrive.
Bike Ottawa is an incorporated, not-for-profit, membership-based organization.. We are entirely run by volunteers who are passionate about promoting cycling as a safe form of transportation. We are incorporated as “Citizens for Safe Cycling” but use the name “Bike Ottawa” to emphasize our local focus
What do we do?
Our volunteers advocate to all levels of government for safe bike infrastructure and other measures to make Ottawa a bike-friendly city. In addition to giving a voice to the bike community through the media, organizing public events and maintaining a presence on social media, our members work with city councillors, city staff and other community groups to ensure that the needs of people on bikes are heard when infrastructure is built, and when decisions are made about road safety.
