Bike Ottawa presented the following as our deputation to the Ontario Standing Committee on Heritage, Infrastructure and Cultural Policy.
Bill 212 (The Bill to Remove Bike Lanes, Promote Government Overreach Into Municipal Affairs, Waste Money, and Make Our Streets Less Safe)
From the government’s draft legislation and framework, Bill 212 would enable provincial approval for new bike lanes on municipal roads requiring removal of a traffic lane and for existing ones, where a traffic lane was removed.
Who’s privileged?
We hear a lot about “privileged cyclists” on social media, especially from people complaining about cyclists on the roads and (ironically) the existence of separated bike lanes that keep cyclists off the roads.
Rally and Ride for Road Safety and against bike lane bans and governmental overreach
Join Bike Ottawa and Strong Towns Ottawa on Saturday October 26 for the rally against bike lane bans. The start point is Confederation Park (100 Elgin Street) at 3:30 pm.
