Do you want to make cycling in Ottawa safer, accepted, and give cyclists a voice that is heard? Do you think the city should speed up the construction of bike infrastructure? Then roll up your sleeves.
Nothing happens out of the blue. Bike infrastructure and bike education don’t appear magically. We welcome people who are willing to help us make Ottawa a better cycling city for everyone. If you want to learn new skills and obtain practical hands-on experience while helping to improve bicycling in Ottawa, below are a few ways you can do so. If you have other ideas about how you’d like to get involved, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Become a member
Your membership is important. We want to hear from as many kinds of cyclists as possible so we can understand cycling issues in your neighbourhood and help you advocate for improvements. Plus, the more cyclists that we represent, the greater our voice and credibility when we meet with city staff and councillors.

Join our Advocacy Working Group
Advocacy is at the core of our work to improve cycling in Ottawa. Our Advocacy Working Group (AWG) is a group of volunteers who directly support our efforts to monitor and provide feedback on infrastructure projects across the city: this includes not only designated cycling projects, but other projects that will have implications for cyclists as well. We follow and provide feedback on projects from the design phase through to post-build review. Each month, our advocacy group meets to review projects and discuss priorities for creating safer cycling routes in Ottawa.
Email email@example.com, and we’ll send you details on upcoming meetings, and keep you informed about new and ongoing projects.
Join our Data Group
Our Data Group has been working hard on making data accessible, visible and usable. We made great progress last year by producing our level of stress maps. Into OpenStreetMap, Mapillary and all the good stuff to tie that together?
Join by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Help out with Events
We can always use extra hands to help us represent Bike Ottawa at other community events throughout the year. Further, we welcome initiatives to organize new events, such as fun rides or community rides that explore bike-able routes in different neighbourhoods of our City. Our Events Committee is the door to helping out with and boosting our presence at events throughout Ottawa.
Email email@example.com to be added to our events volunteer list or share ideas.
Help produce our Annual Report
Since 2011, our volunteers have been producing this Annual Report that reviews data trends, highlights recent infrastructure, tells stories, and makes recommendations about riding bikes in Ottawa. If you’re interested in shaping the content of the next report, researching and writing content, copyediting, and/or design, we’d love to have you involved in preparing our next edition.
Write to firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the volunteer list for the next report: we put out a call and contact volunteers in the fall each year so that we can launch a new report each spring.
